MAXIMIZING YOUR EARNINGS AS A DRIVER
As an Uber driver or a Lyft driver, your goal is to make as much money as possible. The problem, however, is that doing so is much easier said than done. If we all had it our way, we would just plant a money tree in the back yard. However, it’s not that easy so you have to get creative with your methods. If you are an Uber driver, I suggest reading our write-up on maximizing earnings here. If you are a Lyft driver, click here to see tips for earnings more. In this post, I will summarize both write-ups previously mentioned.
Both Uber and Lyft drivers make good money when rider traffic is heavy, but what should you do during downtime? Luckily for you, we have created this write-up to answer that very question. See below for our 3 steps to make you as much money as possible.
Drive for a competitor
One of the best things about both Uber and Lyft is that you can drive for either! There are no non-compete clauses to sign when you sign up, and most drivers we talk to are active on both apps when starting a driving session, although they will have to go out of driver mode on the other when a ride request is accepted. By driving for both companies, you are not limiting yourself to one market. In fact, in most cities Uber and Lyft have a similar presence, so you are essentially doubling your chance to make money!
Utilize Your Referral Code
Using your referral code is by far the easiest way to earn more money as an Uber driver. The referral code is a string of letters and numbers that identifies you as a driver and when a rider signs up with it, you receive $5. When a driver signs up using your code, you receive anywhere from $25 to $1,000 (depending on the city). Sounds great! But just how do you get people to sign up? The key is to leverage your resources and here are a few popular methods we have come across:
- Have business cards made
– There are many websites such as VistaPrint that have great intro specials that allow you to print multiple business cards inexpensively - Social Media
– Lyft encourages you to promote your own unique driver code as long as it is on YOUR OWN social media account or personal blog (i.e. you cannot promote the post commercially) - Word of mouth
– Tell your friends and riders! There is no better way to spread awareness about your referral code than by word of mouth. From our experience, rider’s ears tend to perk up when they hear $750 bonus just for signing up and hitting the road!
Start a Blog
By far the most challenging, starting a blog can also be the most lucrative options for increasing your earnings as a driver. Think about it – you have all the knowledge you need to write, and with close to 300,000 ride-sharing drivers in the world, at least someone will want to hear what you have to say! There are plenty of drivers looking for information on driving but little resources to turn to. This is how Rideshareowl was founded, and there is nothing stopping you from doing the same! We are always open to new questions, so if you are thinking about starting a blog, feel free to reach out to use at Rideshareowl@gmail.com for any guidance you may need!
In closing, there are many ways to increase earnings as an Uber driver, but the options listed above are by far the most popular. If you have any questions or can think of any ways not listed above, please feel free to contact us at rideshareowl@gmail.com – we are always open to suggestions!
